Editorial Focus
Strategic Health Care Marketing covers all areas of marketing and business development in a wide range of health care settings—hospitals, health systems, medical group practices, HMOs. Editorial focus is on strategies and techniques employed within the health care field and on relevant applications from other service industries. Byline on longer articles.

Style/Format
Preferred format for feature articles is the case history approach to solving marketing problems with multiple sources. Informational, plain-English conversational style. Articles range from 800 to 1,500 words in length.

Contributors receive a byline at top of story (name only), and a bio of 2-3 sentences at end of story that can include one link to company site or social media profile. An author photograph is also encouraged/requested.

Reader Profile

  • Directors and vice presidents of marketing, public relations, business development, service line management, and planning in hospitals.
  • Administrators in hospitals, medical groups, and in other types of delivery systems.
  • Marketing and advertising consultants and agencies serving the service sector of the health care industry.
  • Lower representation of pharmaceutical and medical device sectors.

Specs

  • Submit copy as MS Word .doc or .docx files with no special formatting.
  • Adhere to AP Style guidelines.
  • Include images whenever possible. Images should be in .jpg or .png
    format.

    • Logos of the hospitals or health care systems discussed in case
      studies are encouraged as well as screenshots of Web pages discussed.
    • Vendor logos will not be included.
    • Images for the print newsletter should have a resolution of at least
      300 DPI.
    • Images for the Web version of an article should be at least 92 DPI.

Use of Other Authors’ Material/Content
Per copyright law, only a very small portion of another author’s work can be used, and in any case, attribution should be given listing source. This includes material found in traditional media such as newspapers and magazines as well as online media such as Web sites, online forums, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media and emerging formats. As a general role, it is expected that writers will speak directly with sources and e-mail correspondence with sources will not be used as the primary source of communication but rather for initial contact, follow-up, and clarification purposes.

Rights
All articles must represent original, unpublished work. First North American serial and online rights. Publisher also retains rights to use work in subsequent editorial reprints, collections, advertising and promotion, and in any other Plain-English Health Care publications. These rights pertain to all media forms including electronic.
