3 Market Forces to Watch For (Regardless of the Fate of Health Reform!)
// By Lisa D. Ellis //
Following the ups and downs of health reform efforts is a lot like watching a tennis match. Spectators may find themselves getting dizzy as they try to follow the ongoing political battle raging in D.C. involving attempts to repeal some or all of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and replace it with a Republican-backed plan. All of this may leave you wondering what this means for health care networks and how you can prepare for whatever comes next.
Here we’ll share timely advice from an expert who recommends health care marketers take a step back and focus on the broader future of the field so they can help their organization be well positioned for stability over the next few years.
The Political Framework
In terms of national health care policy, as of this writing, the ACA remains in place, while Republican “repeal and replace proposals” are also still in play. When trying to construct a clearer picture of where things are heading in this tumultuous environment, there are a number of factors to consider, according to Paul H. Keckley, PhD.
Keckley is an independent health care researcher and policy analyst who serves as managing editor of The Keckley Report and is author of a monthly column for Health and Hospital Networks. Prior to passage of the ACA, he facilitated sessions with major health industry trade groups to garner private-sector input on this legislation.
Through a recent webinar presented by ReviveHealth, an agency that helps health care groups develop creative strategies, Keckley shared his insights on the legal and political forces at play in the current climate.
