How One Health System Puts Affordable Care to Work for Small-Business Employees

Piedmont Health Services really means business, especially when it comes to protecting the health of the community. Back in 2009, it started a unique partnership with Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce to provide access to more affordable health services for employees of small businesses and their families.
Since the high price tag associated with most health care services—even for people with health care insurance—can cause many Americans to forego needed treatments, this is an important way to incorporate health care reform principles to try to bridge the gap and ensure people take care of themselves and their family members. It also provides a unique opportunity for health care providers to educate patients about the need to make healthy lifestyle choices.
