What Your Health Care Organization Can Learn from a New Decentralized Fundraising Campaign That Leverages Generational Giving Trends

// By Lisa D. Ellis //

Some of the greatest champions for your health care organization no doubt come from your service communities. A new campaign from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) shows how champions are newly motivated and empowered to take the lead in raising funds for causes they care about. Millennials and Generation Xers often naturally add viral elements to their giving. They support causes that have touched them personally, and do so in a way that motivates their family, friends, and colleagues to follow their example.

This exciting trend, if supported well by health care organizations, can have a significant impact, according to Lynn O’Connor Vos, the recently appointed president and chief executive officer of MDA, headquartered in Chicago.

Read on to learn how MDA launched the #LiveUnlimited campaign to harness, amplify, and facilitate the fundraising efforts of others. We’ll look at how the digital campaign leverages three very different fundraising efforts by people whose lives have been touched by muscular dystrophy. In some cases, these fundraising efforts were already underway when MDA learned about them. We’ll also share how these tactics can be applied at many health care organizations — including yours.
